Dr Chau (rated #1 psychiatrist in Victoria on RateMDs on 4 December 2022) is passionate about improving public mental health awareness and destigmatising mental illness which has seen him appear on various news outlets such as his appearances on ABC News and Radio and The Weekly discussing ADHD. Besides treating individual patients, Dr Chau is actively engaged in public presentations, discussion panels and workplace training across a variety of settings including local, organisational and corporate.


Integral to Dr Chau’s patient-focussed care style is the development of strong professional therapeutic relationships. Treatment Philosophy


Dr Chau is a senior consultant psychiatrist with a decade of experience and expertise in supporting people with mental illness. He also helps elite athletes including players from a variety of national sporting codes such as AFL/AFLW and NRL.

Dr Chau served as consultant psychiatrist with The Melbourne Clinic’s 28-day hospital addiction rehabilitation program and held a post on the Psychiatric Advice and Consultation Service and provided telephone support to General Practitioners in order to enhance their treatment of patients with mental illness.

He is also an expert affiliated with Micurae providing teleconference assessments, second opinions and direct consultations of international patients.

Dr Chau has worked at The Royal Melbourne Hospital inpatient unit managing acutely unwell patients whilst simultaneously holding the position of Academic Fellow with The University of Melbourne.

He was previously a member of the RANZCP/RACGP General Practitioners and Psychiatrists committee involved in the development, planning and coordination of joint projects, research and educational events.

Dr Chau completed his psychiatry training at The Austin Hospital which allowed him to acquire experience across various unique settings including treating current and past members of the Australian Defence Force, patients with a forensic history at The Thomas Embling Hospital as well as patients with cancer via the oncology consultation-liaison department.
