I am delighted to share my experience working at Melbourne Mental Health (MMH). Having joined MMH on a colleague's strong recommendation, I now fully understand and appreciate their endorsement. The organisation's culture genuinely supports the delivery of high-standard patient care within a supportive workplace environment.
The experience at MMH extends beyond individual patient care, encompassing a professional environment where consideration and collegiality are paramount in every interaction. The highly efficient administrative team provides comprehensive support, managing clinic letters, ensuring prompt communication with general practitioners, and serving as an effective interface between patients, GPs, and other stakeholders.
The IT platform at MMH is notably user-friendly and efficient. A particular highlight has been participating in the monthly peer review groups, where psychiatrists and psychologists collaborate to discuss patient cases in a truly multidisciplinary approach. MMH provides the opportunity to work with patients presenting with diverse conditions while fostering a supportive team environment.
Working within such an efficient and collaborative team structure has confirmed that joining MMH was indeed the right professional choice.

It has been incredibly refreshing to conduct my private practice at Melbourne Mental Health and to be part of a fabulous team of professional, knowledgeable and easy-going like-minded clinicians from various disciplines, who truly value what they do and share the same high regard for patient care.
The admin staff are just amazing, always willing to offer support and to lighten the admin load for us clinicians. The practice lead, Dr Steven Chau, understands the complexities of private practice well! He is always approachable, encourages feedback and his commitment to creating a warm, welcoming, comfortable space for both clinicians and patients alike is evident from the moment one walks in the door.
I also value the opportunities for cross referrals, regular peer consultations and the social catch-ups which are a wonderful way to stay connected rather than doing private practice in isolation. I highly recommend Melbourne Mental Health for any clinician looking for a private practice opportunity.

For those interested, I would strongly recommend bringing your practice to Melbourne Mental Health. I’ve conducted my practice here as a psychologist since the clinic’s commencement in April 2023 and have had an extremely positive experience.
The managerial and administration support has been immense, to say the least, in which I have felt very liberated to focus my attention and energy solely on providing therapy. The referral numbers have been more than ample and the referral process extremely smooth and uncomplicated.
Moreover, working closely with a number of referring psychiatrists who also practice at the centre, has helped make for a more comprehensive level of care for clients. Lastly, the connection with other allied health clinicians at the clinic is strong and genuinely helps to enhance the quality of our work.

Melbourne Mental Health has an extensive referral base and excellent administrative process which have made it easy to quickly build a patient load and to be able to primarily focus on patient care.
Access to colleagues for advice, including through a regular peer review group, has also helped with transition to private practice.

My name is Effie and I am a Senior Social Worker working at Melbourne Mental Health. As a private practitioner it is paramount for me to feel like I am part of a team. Everyone is friendly, collaborative and committed to each other’s success. There is also the opportunity of secondary consultation with team members. The administration team is a pivotal part of the practice and are experienced and always willing to support everyone.
Steve who owns the practice is an amazing person who is respectful, humble, consistent, always offers support and has created a beautiful environment to work within. Clients consistently describe the openness and safety they feel in the practice. I feel valued and an equal member of a multidisciplinary team.

Melbourne Mental Health is a great place to work as a private psychiatrist. My transition from public to private practice was seamless and easy, thanks to the support of Dr Steven Chau, the welcoming multidisciplinary team and the great admin support. MMH has an extensive referral network and support base, meaning I started with full books and have had no problems establishing my practice. Embracing modern technology has eliminated paper based systems and improved both administrative efficiency and clinical care, meaning I can spend more time with patients and less time on administrative tasks. I can choose to see patients in person at the tastefully appointed consulting rooms, or, remotely via telehealth, thus giving both myself and my patients flexibility and choice. I am happy to recommend MMH to any psychiatrist, allied health or mental health practitioner considering a career in private practice.

My time at Melbourne Mental Health has been incredibly rewarding and transformative.
The practice’s large referral base has been instrumental in allowing me to tailor my approach to patient care. I have been able to engage with patients in ways that align with my unique skill set, ensuring that I provide the most effective support and treatment. This flexibility has not only enhanced my practice but has also fostered deeper connections with my patients. Additionally, a standout aspect of my time here has been the exceptional support from the administration staff. Their efficiency and dedication have created an environment where I can focus entirely on patient care. This strong administrative foundation allows for seamless operations, which is vital in a busy practice. I wholeheartedly recommend Melbourne Mental Health to anyone looking to grow in a nurturing and impactful environment.

As a private consultant psychologist I am very proud to call Melbourne Mental Health home. Melbourne Mental Health is at the forefront of evidence-based practice for mental health difficulties, with a specialisation in neurodiversity. To be surrounded by leading mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and a Mental Health GP allows for a strongly collaborative approach to treating each individual in a person-centred manner.
Furthermore, the administration is exceptional and manages each client with care and compassion, while simultaneously providing consistent and comprehensive support to the clinical team.
Dr Steven Chau has established both a beautiful and inclusive clinic, with each consulting space carefully curated to promote a safe, welcoming and healing environment.
